Common Entrance Test For IITs, NITs and IIITs From 2013, ISEET To Replace IIT-JEE And AIEEE 2013 Onwards

Students Will Now Appear A Common Entrance Test With XII Results for IITs, NITs & IIITs from 2013

New Delhi, 28 May 2012 - A new wave have started flowing among all the aspirants of central level Joint Entrance Examination (such as IITs, NITs, IIITs) after the announcement came from the Union Minister for HRD, Kapil Sibbal, who chaired the joint council meeting of all the Directors of IITs, IIITs and NITs, today at the national capital.

With the new resolution, from 2013 onwards candidates aspiring for the entrance examinations for all the central institutes like NITs, IIITs as well as IITs will have to follow a new format of entrance test, which will be taking in to account the Higher Secondary board results, as well.

In the statement released by the Union Minister after chairing the meeting of the joint council emphasized strongly that there has been no dissent among the council about this proceed even though there was a lot of resistance during the process of consultation from the IIT system. Although the faculty federation of IIT senates had been opposing this new format of entrance test, but the ultimate verdict come in favor of this motion and it was decided that even if the candidates have to undergo different level of selection procedure, but he/ she has to pass through this common phase of selection as proposed by this new format. It is stated that this selection system will replace the AIEEE, IIT-JEE and like examination.

The Newly Proposed Format of Entrance Test:

The aspirants will have to sit for the entrance examinations in two phases – the main test and an advanced test, which will be conducted on the very same day.

The main test will be of multiple choice types and the format of the advanced test will be ascertained by the Joint Admission Board (JAB) formed by the IITs. There will be a formation of an expanded JAB for conducting the main entrance examination incorporating the NITs as well as other centrally funded institutions and the state government representatives.

The JAB of IITs will have complete control on aspects like formation of question paper sets, evaluation and preparation of merit list, while the CBSE will offer administrative backbone to conduct this entrance test.

The state boards will enjoy the flexibility to adopt this new format and determine their own relative weightage systems.

The Selection Procedure:

For all centrally funded institutions the selection criteria would be based on the Higher Secondary marks (40%), the main test results (30%) and the advanced test results (30%). For different higher secondary boards the weightage will be offer as 40% of the comprehensive selection after normalization of the marks through a standard determined procedure.

However, to keep the supremacy of the IITs as the premier level of institution, the filtering process will be a little different from the other centrally funded institutions. In this selection, the board results and the main entrance will carry an equal weightage of 50% each and there will be a filtration of best 50,000 students among the applicants. These top 50,000 will be allowed to take the advanced test for securing their seats into IITs. As stated by the Union Minister, the performance of these students in their advanced test will be the sole criterion for selection in to the IITs. The IIT council has agreed to adopt this new format of selection by 2015. The selection for IITs will be only happening for those aspirants who have crossed the barricade of 50% both in the higher secondary board and the main entrance test.

The Counseling Procedure:

Although the selection for IITs and other centrally funded institutions will be done separately, the counseling will follow a common course. The counseling for both these admissions will be done jointly and a candidate securing his candidature in IITs will also get a chance to get admission into the NITs and IIITs, as well, as per his choice and first preference.

The allotment of seats in all these premier institutions will be done jointly as per the revelation by the Union Minister.

The Expected Outcome:

This new format will definitely ease the burdens of aspirants who were undergoing severe mental dilemma for appearing multiple examinations at multiple venues on multiple dates. This centralization of entrance examination will help the candidates to prepare well and compete well within a healthy atmosphere of competition. Although the state governments of Gujarat, Maharashtra and Haryana has evinced to adopt this new format of common entrance examination, the other state boards are expected to follow this new pattern to streamline the time, efforts and resources for selection of competent candidates on a long run.

So get ready with your preparation to compete well so that you can reserve your seats in the entrance examinations from 2013 onwards!
